Title: Contemporary Techniques for Clarinet; A Selective, Sequential Approach through Prerequisite Studies and Contemporary Études
Authors: Dolak, Fritz
Abstract: New music performance demands made upon the 21st Century clarinetist are numerous. The studies contained in Contemporary Techniques for the Clarinet are an attempt in exploring some of the more common new music practices.

Prerequisite studies have been developed to introduce and practice each new performance technique out-of-context as precursors to incorporating them in a compositional frame of reference. To that end, ten étude have been composed each of which deals with incorporating at least one new technique into a short but whole composition.

"Vapors," étude No. 10, is intended to stand on its own as a complete, performance composition.

The overall goal of Contemporary Techniques for the Clarinet is assisting the clarinetist to become familiar with new performance demands and augmenting clarinet technique through these originally composed exercises and etudes
