dc.description.abstract The Cincinnati Reds are the oldest professional baseball club in the world. However, an important piece of their history has been lost in the name of progress. Crosley Field, home of the Reds from 1912-1970, was torn down in 1972, and today little marks the site. This project celebrates the site of Crosley Field, the Cincinnati Reds, and the culture of baseball in urban Cincinnati through a mixed-use development anchored by recreational baseball fields. The design is greatly influenced by the historic architecture, street grid, and landmarks of the West End and Over-the-Rhine neighborhoods. Research strategies include case studies of successful mixed-use developments and recreational sports facilities, GIS and Sanborn map analysis, site observation, and photo-documentation. The proposal creates a civic landmark that serves local residents and baseball enthusiasts throughout the changing seasons and around the clock. en_US
