Abstract

The purpose of this project was to design a curriculum for a one credit, twelve week course to prepare students to participate in an international education program such as studying abroad. It will examine the nature and needs of students, theories that support the notion of international education, and the needs and benefits of international education. The curriculum will provide a course outline and resources to teach the course. The goal of this project was to design a course to prepare students for a study abroad trip. There are many benefits to gain from such an experience. Without proper preparation for the trip or a proper mind for reflection, the students may miss out on benefits. Getting the most out of the trip will aid the students in growing into a better citizen as well as understanding a global mindset.Millennial students, born between the years of 1982 and 2004, are the current cohort of students that are entering higher education. These students seem to be more connected with their family and may be less apt to participate in a program such as international education. Another significant aspect of this course is that it can ease the students into the idea of leaving the country to gain some global experience. This teamoriented method of preparation not only will provide the proper reflection to prepare the mind for this experience, but will engage the student in learning practical information about the specific culture and language.
