Abstract

Often times, there is lack of communication between what is currently happening in actual field experience and the college training program. Such is the case in the area of psychometry frequently. Because students of psychometry sometimes have no contact with practicing psychologists in the field, this study looks into the areas of remediations and referrals as presented by practicing psychological workers in Indiana. This paper also deals with tests and techniques used by these qualified persons along with expressions of their experiential learnings outside of the classroom.Students studying in the area of psychometry sometimes feel that they will not know what to expect when they initially begin practicing in the field. They express a lack of confidence especially in the areas of how to affectively help a child deal with his problem and what types of problems will be encountered most often. The response to intensive questioning of the qualified persons in this area presented in this paper should be beneficial in clarifying the situational encounters of Indiana school psychological workers.Because of the relative newness of school psychometry, this is an area which has received little attention or research assigned to it. The writer knows of no other studies undertaken which explore this particular problem. The data obtained can be used to expand the awareness of students as well as departmental persons as to the current experiential encounters in the field.
