Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the current coach-to-athlete ratios in NCAA Division I-A strength and conditioning programs so that current staff needs can be established. A second purpose was to obtain information about training protocol and weight room design which will affect the coach-to-athlete ratio in the weight room. The return rate of 54% (58 returned from 106 sent) should give an accurate picture of Division I-A varsity weight rooms. Based on the findings of this survey the coach-to-athlete ratio in varsity NCAA Division I-A weight rooms during the peak time of the day is one to nine which is below Richardson's (1986) recommendation of one to ten.
