Abstract
PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the study was to analyze the educational background and job descriptions of general managers in professional football, basketball, and baseball. Based on the findings criteria has been developed to recommend direction for future interns to be a general manager. SUBJECTS: The subjects who were asked to participate in the study consists of a total of 83 presidents from professional football, basketball, and baseball. The names were obtained from a National Publication, The Sports Address Book. Basically, the presidents will be mailed a questionnaire and asked to complete this 4-page, self-constructed questionnaire for the stated purpose of this study. To ensure subject anonymity, participants were not asked to identify themselves. Each questionnaire was assigned a number. Each league and team was identified by a separate number and once questionnaires were returned the team was removed from the checklist. For example, Football was assigned 100 through 128; Basketball was assigned 200 through 227; and Baseball was assigned 300 through 328.
