dc.description.abstract In this thesis I propose to establish design approach based on historical, social, and cultural aspects of the Douglas Park Area of Chicago, Illinois. I believe that these three issues will help maintain the integrity of the Douglas Park Area as I introduce a new housing type. The new housing is intended to create a cohesive fabric throughout the neighborhood as opposed to establishing barriers within the community. The overall integrity of the neighborhood will be reinforced to enhance the concern for community affairs that directly affect the lives of the inhabitants.
