Abstract

The plans and information in this book are intended to represent both a process and a product, based on the following criteria.l. Learning a process for attacking a very complex problem in an organized manner.2. To gain a further knowledge and understanding of the workings of a health facility.3. To provide an efficient facility to solve the needs of both the client and the general public/patients.4. To study the interaction of various types and classes of people within the complex.5. To study the relationships of people to the sophisticated technology of health-care systems and components.6. To provide a facility which will be able to grow and adapt to an advancing medical technology.7. To provide a convenient means of health care for the patients. The accomplishments of this project were limited by a time oriented schedule, which is basically oriented for a very detailed and complex project. I did, however, develop a process of research and evaluation, for a multi-faceted project. The results I achieved, can be categorized into three categories:1.Objectives achieved and successful.a.Learning a process for a comples project.b.Gaining knowledge of health care systems and facilities.c. Providing a facility that helps solve the needs of both in and outpatients.d. A study of the relationships of people to a very complex system and technology. e.Providing a facility that can grow and adapt to a new technology of health care.2. Objectives achieved and unsucessful.a. Combining a patient flow and a service flow in thesame facility, and keeping them separate (vertically)-- I could have looked at the double corridor system a little more closely for the same purpose.3. Objectives not achieved.a. I feel that any objectives I did not achieve dealt primarily with form problems and transition elements that were not completely worked out and solvedFOR FUTURE REFERENCEI feel that the thesis program should be revised to follow two basic directions:1. Simpler projects: Surgi-centers, Out-patient facilities, Day-care centers, etc.--so that it would be easier to squeeze into three quarters of work.2. More complex projects: Projects where Architects, Engineers, Interior designers, Landscape Architects, Management (Business) and Consultants in the field of health-care can be utilizedmore as a total development team, for a more comprehensive look at the problems of health-care.
