Title: Atlantis 2 : [an honors thesis (HONRS 499)]
Authors: Sowatsky, Mark S.
Advisor: Unavailable
Date of Object: 1977
Abstract: Atlantis 2 is an artifical island/city located in the Straits of Florida, twenty miles east of Miami. Philosophically, this might well focus on an interdependence with the ocean and its supplies and opportunities of cultivated use without exploitation. The structure intends to support three separate yet related productive efforts. These include:an ocean thermal energy conversion plant (OTEC) with a production capacity of 100 megawatts to supply Miami;chemical, biologic and physical oceanographic research laboratories for local organic survey and extensive exploration of the continental shelf and other geomorphic phenomena;and university level, undergraduate studies center for student 'hands on' involvement and oceanic orientation.
