Part of the mission of Cardinal Scholar is to provide a centralized venue where Ball State University Faculty may deposit their scholarly output (papers, articles, digital representations of their creative efforts). Faculty may wish to use the SHERPA RoMEO tool to verify publisher policies before depositing pre-print and post-print materials.
The scholarly or creative output that you deposit will be made accessible via search engines like Google and OAIster, rendering your work more accessible and visible to the world. The URL (hyperlink or web address) that Cardinal Scholar assigns to your work is persistent (meaning that it will not change over time) and any citations that your work receives in the work of other scholars using that URL will never break.
In addition, faculty members are encouraged to identify exemplary student work and to sponsor deposit of that work in Cardinal Scholar. Student work that is sponsored by a faculty member will be searchable via Google, OAIster, and other search engines (whereas student work that has not been sponsored will not be accessible through these engines). Faculty sponsorship of exemplary student work boosts the reputation of the university and demonstrates the positive influence that you have had upon your students. Permission to post the material will need to be obtained according to FERPA regulations using the Student Work Permission Form. Please contact Philip Deloria at PJDeloria@bsu.edu or (765) 285-5078 to make arrangements for sponsorship of student work.
