Abstract:
This paper reflects the issues involved in studying an urban site such as the Black Rock Market Square, a summary of the findings from historical research and preliminary archaeological investigations and what the future holds for the preservation of the historic Black Rock Market Square. It provides historical information for community members, guidelines for its treatment and preservation, and archaeological research that can be used in future excavations at the site. Additionally, this information can be used in the construction of a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the site and/or a National Register Historic District that the Market Square site will be located within.
