dc.description.abstract Digital repositories are often created collection by collection, rather than being developed around a theme or subject. By enhancing existing collections, applying new metadata standards, and utilizing CONTENTdm custom queries and results (CQR), Ball State University Libraries created a subject-based, user-focused digital gateway to military history resources. This presentation includes a survey of the collections, focusing on the various format types (scrapbooks, oral histories, photographs, films, and text-based collections) and local customizations (Zoomify, embedded players, Google maps, and other interactive elements). The presentation will also discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in creating a digital portal that combines distinct and diverse collections. en_US
