Abstract:
This curriculum establishes performance-based criteria for annual individual assessment
of high school trumpet players. Secondary instrumental music education lacks
progressive method books that are appropriate for classroom instruction. With most high
school instrumental music ensembles that span multiple grades levels, so it is important
to communicate clear annual individual performance targets for each grade level. The
curriculum provides criteria, exercises, assessment rubrics for grades 9-12. This
curriculum focuses on the following attributes of trumpet playing: quality of sound,
scales and intervals, range, flexibility, articulation, and music literacy. This curriculum
will establish annual goals to assist the progression of high school trumpet players
including observable behavior-based objectives will provide annual targets for growth.
