Abstract:
This paper provides an in-depth study of presidential communication. The relationship between the president and the people is a major building block of the American democracy, and we can gain a greater understanding of it by analyzing why the president communicates, how he does so, and what influences this communication. The paper begins by examining why presidents communicate, and lists both the benefits and drawbacks of presidential communication. The middle section is a study ofthe many methods presidents can use to communicate with the public. The third and final section looks at the various factors that influence how a president communicates. By studying the benefits, methods, and influences of presidential communication, we can apply this information to other political offices to examine their communication; we can also use the information gathered in this paper to further understand the role that communication between the president and the people plays in the American political system.
