Abstract

Throughout the Harry Potter series the reader sees Harry on a quest to defeat Lord Voldemort, but there is a second pursuit hidden in the text, Harry's search for parental figures. As Harry and his companions evolve over seven books Harry finds many adults that fill a parental role . Specifically Harry finds many father figures in the novels namely Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, and Remus Lupin. This abundance of father figures prompts the question, which one does Harry choose. Through a literary analysis I will argue that Harry finds the strongest father figure in Sirius Black, not Albus Dumbledore. However each character explored here plays a vital role in Harry's develop into a great wizard.
