Abstract:
Both the creative section and the research paper delve into historical relevant accounts of East Indian women, including cultural circumstances in Asia as well as assimilation into American culture. This creative section of the thesis project highlights the oppression of women outside of America, giving a more personal account of such stories. The research paper delves into the historical and current situation of East Asian women, the "dirty laundry" of the world which is often unacknowledged and ignored. Despite the changes in economics and culture that have taken place over many decades, many women are stuck in a severely gender biased past. It is my intention to bring to light the trials and tribulations Indian women endured in the past, how those customs and beliefs have changed, which persist in culture and why.
