Abstract:
This project explores the history and current life of Bush Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana
as the United State’s first adaptive reuse project for a sports facility. The evidence suggests that
the practice of adaptive reuse is viable as a means for historic preservation and sustainable
redevelopment, at least for this site. The project examines the process by which the stadium was
converted into an apartment community, the various voices in the argument for and against this
type of rehabilitation, and the broader issue of urban blight within the city of Indianapolis.
