Abstract

My short animated film Timeless, is a story about regret and second chances. A male and a female character share a brief romantic moment on a city bench. The bus arrives before that moment can reach its full potential, changing the course of their lives. As the male character begins to leave, it starts to rain, which hastens their separation. Each of them continue on in their own separate lives, meeting new people and forming new relationships, but their individual relationships never seem to pan out. Finally, when they are both older, the man returns to the city where he has a chance encounter with the same woman on the same bench. They recognize each other, even after many years, and begin to sit down and chat. Before long, it begins to rain and in a flash of lightning, the scene changes back to that original moment where they first met. I use multiple elements of film, such as color and staging, as well as clear narrative to create driving emotion in my piece that will draw the audience in and establish a connection with them, centered on a moment they also regret, as well as giving them a hope in a second chance. Timeless is a project that has significant personal importance to me, as it concurrently represents a project of my own that I regret never finishing. Incorporating that sense of regret into this project, as well as the hope and joy of its completion are all emotions that I want to include in this piece.
