A culmination of Liverpool Primary School culture through children's literature

Abstract

Diversity in children's literature is essential in our modern society. Children need to be exposed to various cultures, religions, and ethnicities in order to gain an understanding and acceptance of people and places in the world around them. Throughout my time at Ball State, I had the opportunity to teach at Much Woolton Catholic Primary School in Liverpool, England. This field study allowed me to experience a culture with similarities and differences to what can be seen in the United States. For my thesis I wrote and illustrated a piece of nonfiction children's literature titled Mighty Much Woolton that incorporates my observations of Liverpool culture and the practices at a primary school.
