Abstract:
This dissertation is a concise repertoire guide to Wanghua Chu’s thirty published works
for solo piano. The guide includes: 1) the title, publisher, length, stylistic features, and level of
difficulty of each piece, and 2) a detailed discussion of efficient practicing methods, technical
considerations, and musical interpretation for each piece. Chu’s collection contains various
musical and technical challenges that are appropriate for pianists at an advanced level. Therefore,
professionals, piano teachers, and students may use this guide to select appropriate repertoire. A
secondary objective of the guide is to facilitate widening the composer’s exposure to Western
audiences.
