Abstract:
The field of Computer Science (CS) has a well known stereotype of being dominated by white
and Asian males. As a woman in CS, I wanted to know whether my classmates in the Ball State
CS department felt discriminated, unincluded, or unrepresented, and how they thought diversity
could be increased within the department. I conducted a survey and two focus groups to
determine the current population of CS students' opinions and feelings on the matter, and found
that the main reason for a lack of diversity was misinformation on what CS is.
