Ghost ballads

Abstract

This collection of poems explores the folk ballad in both traditional and modernized forms. Inspired by the emphasis on “flash” short form writing in the Ball State University creative writing program, I sought to combine flash fiction and poetry using the songwriting structure of the ballad form. The content of these ballads pulls from the primary themes I explored during my time in the program, most notably ghost stories and folktales adorned with Judeo-Christian religious iconography.
