Abstract:
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a condition that affects how your brain processes sensory
information (“Sensory Processing Disorder”). This can include things you see, hear, smell, taste,
or touch. When relating SPD to fashion and clothing, this can mean that certain clothing or
materials may seem too tight, itchy, etc. Clothing that is made specifically for those with SPD is
not yet something that the fashion industry offers. Due to how unique these issues are to each
individual it can be difficult to know and understand what clothing for those with SPD will need
to look like. In my thesis, I discuss what SPD is, how it is shown in children and young adults,
and analyze the ways that the fashion industry can make clothing that is better suited to the needs
of individuals with SPD. I am using this research to also develop a clothing line using Adobe
Illustrator for people with SPD and present the garments while explaining my fabrication and
design choices.
