In April 2009, the Muncie division of Borg-Warner closed. This closing is a microcosm of the factory closings that are occurring all over the United States, particularly in the Midwestern "Rust Belt." The significance of this particular story is derived from the fact that this company had roots in the community dating back over 100 years and from the fact that Muncie is known as "Middletown." Throughout the Fall 2009 semester, I helped to research and compile materials about Borg-Warner, past and present. Our efforts culminated in a documentary titled Changing Gears: The End of an Era.
