Abstract
The focus of this paper is a comparative analysis of Roger Quilter, Sir Arthur Sullivan, and Geoffrey Bush’s settings of the Shakespeare lyric, “Sigh no more, ladies.” There is a discussion of the literature surrounding the three composer’s settings. Background information concerning the meaning of the text is discussed followed by a musical analysis of the three pieces. Musical examples for all three settings are provided.
