Translation is often essential for the spread of ideas across international borders. Until now, understanding of Nicolas de Montreux's La Sophonisbe (1601) has been confined to those who could read French. With the completion of this project, the number of people who have access to this classical piece of literature has increased exponentially. The play has been translated from the archaic French of the 1600's to the modem English. This translation will allow for new insights and inferences to be made by English-speaking readers interested in classical literature.
