Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the health related fitness level of ninth grade general physical education students at Delta High School, as well as to determine the relationships between actual fitness and perceived fitness in the same group. Sixty males and fortysix females were the subjects. Data was gathered using the AAHPERD (1989) Physical Best test and Abadie's Physical Fitness Scale (1988). A rank correlation was performed for actual and perceived overall fitness, as well as for each individual fitness component. For the males, there were significant (.05 level) correlations between actual and perceived fitness for: 1) cardiovascular endurance (r=-0.434); 2) body composition (r=-0.396); 3) muscular strength (r=0.381); and 4) overall fitness (r=0.478). For the females, correlations were significant (.05 level) for: 1) cardiovascular endurance (r=-0.487); 2) muscular strength (r=0.408); and 3) overall fitness (r=0.443).
