Abstract:
Statistics shows that by the year 2020, 44% of people 65 and older will need to spend some time in a nursing home. Residents in a nursing home facility experience stress while adjusting to their new location. It is expected that residents will do better if care is developed to relieve their stress level, (Brooke, 1989A). It is important for health care professionals to become proficient in identifying what stress level the resident is in order to help the resident adjust to nursing home placement (Manioun & Rantz, (1995). This study will provide information about the impact of relocation in individuals being admitted into a nursing home facility and determine the stress level of resident living in a nursing home. This understanding of the process of adjustment will increase awareness of the affects of relocation for older adults when admitted into a nursing home facility. It will also increase awareness of stress levels that residents experience.
