Abstract:
A nutrition education program was designed specifically for adults participating in a physical fitness program. The study group was comprised of individuals from the Adult Fitness Program, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. The nutrition education program, formally entitled the Nutrition Education Seminar, was a six-week program consisting of four one-hour lectures, individual consultations, and individual computerized dietary analyses. The pre- and post-assessment parameters included pre- and post-program written examinations, pre- and post-program comparison of the dietary analyses, and a post-program subjective evaluation. There was statistically significant improvement between pre- and post-written examinations, and the pre- and post-dietary analyses. The subjective evaluations indicated that the participants felt that the project was worthwhile. The results suggest that a nutrition education program would be beneficial to an adult fitness program.
