Abstract:
Pre-season college football brochures for institutions within Indiana vary in size, method, content, procedure and purpose. Their strengths and weaknesses signal a need for examination. Suggestions as to improvement will be offered within these pages as seen through the needs of the professional news media. As an extension of this, the values of such a brochure to today's active sports editors will be outlined. In order that a complete job of reporting mightbe accomplished, sports writers need as much information as possible at their disposal. As far as the 1969 Indiana college football season is concerned, these pre-season booklets comprise one of the more important means to this end. Improvements are necessary if any operation is to meet its purpose. Such is the case with these brochures. Examining the strengths and weaknesses of the 1969 books will be a step in the right direction. Most sports information directors who annuallyaccept the task of producing these books many times merely duplicate the previous year's publication. This examination will point out areas where certain things need to be extended. Only the Indiana colleges and universities which play football were contacted in this project and those responding will be examined.
