Abstract:
This study presents an in-depth look at the third set of the Choral Hymns from the Rig-Veda, for women's voices and harp. Included in this study is a brief overview of the musical movement in England known as the English Musical Renaissance, its social and cultural implications, and Hoist's place in that revolution which stimulated a change in English music making. Sample analyses that typify Hoist's compositional style, preferences and devices are provided. Also included is a discussion of some of the possible implications for performance as they pertain to the choral conductor.
