Abstract:
This workshop is devoted to teaching students about values and ethics. The program is designed to help students learn about ethics, distinguish between ethical dilemmas and ethical temptations, and practice making difficult ethical choices. It is divided into two sections. The first is a broad overview of values and ethics. The second gives the students a chance to practice ethical decision-making through the analysis of situations unique to five areas of campus: academic, student organizations, athletics, seniors, and the general student body. The program was created to address ethical concerns in higher education. Millennial Students are arriving on campus with a lack of understanding of ethics and of how to make ethical decisions. This workshop helps them learn how to make those decisions. They learn the process for making ethical decisions. They are given opportunities to practice making those decisions. The goal of higher education is to produce successful graduates who will become strong additions to the greater society. Colleges and universities prepare their students effectively in their specific subjects. They are less successful in preparing them to act ethically. This program is an answer to those concerns. Students who go through this seminar will be more prepared to act ethically and make good choices. The program places values and ethics into a prominent position in the lives of college students. Higher education will be in a better position to achieve its mission of producing students who are well prepared in all facets of their lives.
