Abstract:
The goal of this creative project was to understand the experiences of those who have succeeded in creating a freelance writing business offering promotional writing services, and then to develop a solid list of best practices for beginning a business. Research data includes interviews with writers and employers, as well as a comprehensive review of the literature available and Internet resources. It was determined that freelance writing is a viable career choice, but involves individual consideration of the following: the writer's role, education and preparation, marketing, relationships, and fees. The research data provided enough valuable information to produce a viable set of Best Practices for New Freelance Writers.
