Abstract:
Beginning in the early spring of 2003 and continuing through the spring of 2004, photographs of herbaceous spring flowering plants found within the boundaries of the Ball State University owned property of Christy Woods were taken. The visual inventory of plants was then combined with technical data on each species recorded to create an online field guide. These species pages are the beginning of a larger project for the Field Station and Environmental Education Center, FSEEC, pages found on the Ball State University website. These pages were designed to not only be integrated into the FSEEC web pages, but with the purpose that they can be expanded upon in subsequent seasons to eventually create an online field guide representative of East-Central Indiana flora, not just those species found in Christy Woods. The website, http://www.bsu.edu/web/klstultz, was used as a development site for the species pages prior to being moved to their permanent home as part of the Native Wildflower pages, http://web.bsu.edu/fseec/environment/ECl/FloraECUWildflowers.htm, found on the FSEEC web pages titlsd East Central Indiana Flora, http://web.bsu.edu/fseec/environment/ECl/FloraECI.htm. While this is the current web address for these pages, it could change in the future, but they will always be a part of the biology department's website. The site is intended for use by Ball State University students, faculty, visitors and others wishing to conduct research within one of these properties. The pages were designed with the intention that the entire site can be added to in subsequent seasons. With the addition of pages dedicated to other types of flora, the website will become a useful tool for those in the classroom or visitors to the property who may use it as a helpful guide before or after a visit.
