Abstract:
The purpose of this project was to create a comprehensive connection program that linked secondary and post-secondary institutions. Serving as a student-focused support system, the connection program had the potential to improve the transition of students between high school and college. This connection program was designed as a general guide to follow when creating such a program at a college or university. This program was created after reviewing information from existing literature. The researcher focused on literature describing the lack of collaboration between K-12 education and post-secondary education, programs that related to establishing a connection between secondary education institutions and post-secondary institutions, and specific examples of institutions that have implemented programs establishing such a connection. The researcher focused on programs proposed by Stanford University and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The researcher then identified variations of programs implemented at various institutions in the states of Maryland, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Indiana. The researcher used this information to create the connection program detailed in Chapter Four.
