Abstract:
The purpose of the project was to develop a three part seminar series to educate second semester high school juniors about the college selection process, provide tools for major and career exploration, and to facilitate a clear understanding the reality of college life. This plan was created after reviewing literature related to the topics of how high school students select a college to attend, and major and career decision-making processes. This three part seminar series provides second semester high school juniors with an understanding of how to conduct research on prospective institutions, how to get the most out of a campus visit, the process of exploring majors and careers, and a look at college life from the perspective of current students. Since high school students tend to lack the decision-making skills and cognitive structure to make college and major selections, this plan was developed to create a structured environment for exploration and decision-making.
