Abstract

The purpose of this creative project was to design a four-year leadership training program to prepare undergraduate students for leadership roles in the college community. The intended goal of this program was to provide students with the opportunity to learn skills needed to be successful in their professional careers after graduation. The foundation of the program was based on Stephen Covey's work, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change in which Covey introduces the following seven habits; be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. A review of related literature was completed with research concentrating on leadership, millennial generation students and Covey's work. The four year leadership program was entitled L.E.A.D. 4 Life: Leaders Emerging And Developing. Each semester of the program concentrates on the mastery of a specific habit.
