Abstract:
Journalistically, dance often receives the least amount of fine arts coverage. Much of what is known about the art has been preserved because one generation of dancers passed its knowledge onto the next. However, dance writers have been able to record information about the art, too, presenting information about performers to a wider audience. In narrative journalism, writers seek to tell accurate, compelling stories about a specific subject, often by immersing themselves in that subject's culture. Much of the information they gather stems from interviewing and observing subjects in their natural environments. For thirty-two years, Anderson Young Ballet Theatre, a regional ballet company in Anderson, Indiana, has trained dancers who are now accomplished professionals around the world. The researcher seeks to write a history of this company while employing narrative writing techniques.
