Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the marketability and desired minimum qualifications for an athletic trainer seeking employment within the state of Indiana. A survey containing questions pertaining to, the desired credentials and educational background was sent to 150 high school athletic directors, to determine which factors effected the employment of an athletic trainer. Of the 150 questionnairres sent, 116 were returned for a response rate of 77 percent. A majority of the schools (55%) had an athletic trainer on staff for daily health care of injured athletes. All of the schools who did not employ an athletic trainer stated budget restrictions as the main factor in this decision. The study found that the desired qualifications for an athletic trainer seeking employment in an Indiana high school would be, a minimum of a bachelors' degree, 1-3 years previous experience, and teacher certification.
