dc.description.abstract This thesis has analyzed the more important works of Erich Kastner in order to prove that his literary effort is not designed merely to entertain, but rather that his foremost concern was that of a moralist and critic. The analysis has been divided into Kastner's works for children, his adult novel Fabian, die Geschichte eines "Noralisten, and his volumes of poetry, preceded by a brief biography of K.stner's life: his youth, his education, his years as a journalist and his later life. These different periods of Kastner's life have been examined in the light of formative factors which influenced his works.
