Abstract:
The problem was to determine the geographic distribution within the state of the amphibians and reptiles of Indiana, as reported in the literature, and to compile in one volume this scattered information. The distribution of each species was plotted on a map of Indiana county by county. The occurrence of each species was plotted on the evidence of the actual collection of a specimen or specimens in a particular county.Considerable information has been available about the number and distribution of the species of Indiana amphibians and reptiles, but it could only be obtained by consulting a number of journals, bulletins, and books. There was a definite need to have this information available in one volume, which would include the total number of known Indiana species and the localities in which each has been collected and recorded in the state to date.
