Abstract:
The project will provide 200 apartment units for Ball State University family housing. Apartment types are in accordance with the desires expressed in a 1975 survey taken by the Ball State Family Housing Office. An energy-efficient building is desired.I selected a housing project for my thesis because it provided a building type I felt comfortable working with. The project size--approximately twice the recommended 100,000 square feet -- limited the design. I was only able to set the framework for the building and did not have an opportunity to delve into minor details. For example, the community spaces were provided for, but they were not designed. The basic organization of the building and individual apartments was experimented with extensively.
