dc.description.abstract The purpose of this project was divided into two objectives. The first was to investigate the non-school services available to the high school counselor in Lorain County, Ohio. The second was to compile this information in a comprehensive form so as to share its value with other counselors in the area. There has been a real need throughout the nation for the school counselor to become aware of existing social agencies and to understand their services in order to utilize an effective referral system. This need has certainly been true for the counselors within the school systems of Lorain County. The counselors personal knowledge and effectiveness, as indicated in recent literature, increased markedly through information obtained in regard to various community agencies. It was hoped that by obtaining this information from the available referral agencies in Lorain County and through the dissemination of this data to interested professional and lay people, that the foundations of an effective referral system would be established. en_US
