Abstract:
The project herein described dealt with the development and evaluation of the educational impact of two case studies: Recombinant DNA and Genetic Screening. These case studies were used in meeting selected objectives in a Ball State University course entitled Honors Colloquium in Human Genetics and Bioethical Decision-Making. More specifically these selected objectives are intended to: 1) enhance student's content acquisition; 2) facilitate the development of decision-making skills; and 3) provide experience in applying content to real life problems. Through analysis of the data collected, it was concluded that these two case studies do indeed meet these objectives. Thus, further use of the case study methodology is recommended in courses which have similar objectives.
