Abstract:
Currently, there are two educational methods for a student trainer to become eligible for the National Athletic Trainers Association certification examination, curriculum or internship preparation. There is much debate as to which method best prepares the student for the certification examination and entry into the profession. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a relationship between learning style preference and their educational program type (i.e, curriculum or internship). Students in twelve midwest athletic training programs (six curriculum and six internship) participated in this study. There was no significant differences between the type of educational program and an athletic trainers learning styles (p>.05). Further studies regarding learning styles and athletic training students needs to be performed so that educators of athletic trainers can make the appropriate adjustment in their teaching methods to accommodate for learning style preferences.
