Abstract:
Sportsmanship issues in Recreation Programs at Ball State University are most commonly a problem with the sport of basketball. One way to control sportsmanship problems has been through the use of the Sportsmanship Rating System. It was the goal of this study to determine if the Sportsmanship Rating System improves intramural participants attitudes towards sportsmanship in intramural basketball. This study used only male subjects who played intramural basketball at Ball State University. All attitudes towards sportsmanship were measured using a modified McMahan, 1978 questionnaire. A total of 55 participants from 55 separate teams were survey for this study. The test group consisted of 29 subjects and the control group consisted of 26 subjects. From data collected in this study it was determined that the use of a Sportsmanship Rating System does improve intramural basketball participants at Ball State University attitudes towards sportsmanship.
