Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between stadium age (newly constructed) and the winning percentage and fan attendance for minor league baseball teams. Stadium construction age was five years or less. Respondents (N = 28) for this study were chosen from AA and AAA baseball. These are all the organizations that have constructed a new stadium in the past five seasons.A questionnaire, entitled "The Effects of Constructing a New Minor League Baseball Stadium on Winning Percentage and Attendance for the Five Seasons Following Construction," was used to gather information for the study. Twenty-eight AA and AAA baseball general managers around the United States responded. Data showed that construction of a new stadium has a positive correlation with winning percentage and yearly attendance for the first five seasons. Further research needs to be conducted to better understand other factors that may have an influence on winning percentage and yearly attendance.
