Abstract:
A thorough, complete, and step-by-step derivation of the Klein Nishina formula, using quantum electrodynamics theory (QED), was undertaken. This was done, in particular, by using first principles and concepts from several basic texts in Elementary Particle Physics theory, and proceeding in a logical, and systematic, albeit apparently drawn out, way to "connect the dots" toward the eventual arrival at our conclusion, namely the Klein Nishina formula for the cross-section (chance) for polarized Compton Effect elastic scatters. Of particular value, on the way, was the use of the Feynman rules
