Abstract:
Research pertaining to pre-activity warm-up and stretching and post-activity stretching has evolved over the past few decades. Current research shows that some of the activities suggested a few decades ago are no longer suggested practice. The purpose of this study was to see if the current pre- and post-activity stretching practices of college football programs are in line with the current research. Participants (23) filled out a nineteen-question survey pertaining to their stretching practices. Results indicated that the majority of coaches are following the current research suggestions but some are still performing some of the contra-indicated stretches. Further research based on the divisional classification of the participant's institution found similar results compared to the general population but also a few discrepancies. Data suggests that Division 1 coaches are significantly more likely to stretch following activity than their Division 3 counterparts.
