dc.description.abstract In this project a balance was achieved between wetland ecosystem tendencies and the needs and wants of the surrounding residential community. In so doing I explored the ecological functions of the natural systems and the principles of community and housing design. Viable economic programs were incorporated into the planning process to assure the survival of the wetland ecosystem. These programs were included to increase the economic value of the wetland in the eyes of the public. Through the development of guidelines and a master plan for the site chosen in northwest Indiana's LaPorte County I hope to have achieved this balance.
